Project Information
As part of the Town Council’s updated 2022-2023 Strategic Initiatives, the Council adopted a new initiative to “Conduct a Comprehensive Review of South Madison Street to Improve Commercial Vitality and Safety.”
The Town contracted with an engineering firm to develop conceptual ideas for improvements to South Madison Street. Before those concepts are finalized, the Town wishes to hear from the public on preferences related to a number of ideas. These include:
- Whether to keep parking on both sides of the street or limited to one side of the street;
- What kind of sidewalk materials are preferred;
- What kind of street lights are preferred;
- Preference as to keeping the existing trees, replacing them as they become unhealthy, or replace them all up front;
- And retaining wall preferences
There is also the opportunity to provide additional comments to the Town.
Members of the public can download and fill out the document at this link and return it to the Town at this email address or hand it in at the Town Office. Comments will also be received through email or written document.
Current Conditions
Below are some pictures of current conditions on South Madison Street, showing challenges with accessibility and safety. Other concerns that have been raised include the lack of street lighting during the winter months and lack of visibility to see the storefronts.
