Chief AJ Announces Retirement; Recruitment for Chief Begins

Middleburg Police Department Shield

As has been shared at recent events and in local publications, Chief AJ Panebianco has formally announced his retirement as Chief of Police for Middleburg, Virginia, effective May 1, 2023. Chief AJ has been the Chief in Middleburg for nearly 11 years, with a career in policing that spans 35 years.

Chief AJ has exemplified what it truly means to lead a community policing department. He is a constant presence in Town, being available at all times for citizens, business owners, and visitors. Chief AJ is kind and helpful, caring more about the community and his team than for his own personal needs. His mark on the community will be felt for years to come.

More information about Chief AJ can be found in this month's Middleburg Memo (sent with each utility bill).

The Town will greatly miss Chief AJ but are forever grateful for the legacy that he has established in Middleburg. Be sure to stop by and see him over the next few months. The Town will announce details about a retirement ceremony at a future date.

The Town of Middleburg is now embarking upon the effort to fill the Chief of Police position. Click here for the full job description, position profile, and other key information. The application period is open through February 20, 2023. It is the Town's goal to have a new Chief hired by April 24, 2023, to allow for a one-week transition period with Chief AJ.
