[ARCHIVED] Air Bubbles in Tap Water

drinking-water

Over the weekend of June 2-4, the Town of Middleburg received a number of emails/calls regarding water in town being “milky” or “bubbly.” This situation comes from naturally-occurring air bubbles in the Town's well water that are pumped into the system. The bubbles will dissipate as the water comes to atmospheric pressure – sometimes quickly. To expedite the dissipation, you can pour the water from one container into another.

Please note that the water remains safe to drink and in accordance with all health standards.

Late last week, the Town of Middleburg had to replace the well pump at Well 3 (located on East Marshall Street by the water tower) due to a failed motor and pump. When the new pump was activated, the Town noted that it is pumping at a higher rate than the previous pump, which may have introduced additional air bubbles into the system.

The Town's utility contractor will be investigating options to minimize the amount of air introduced into the system the next time that Well 3 is activated.

If you have questions or concerns, you can contact the Town Office at 540-687-5152 during business hours.
